33056 'Burmah Star' is at Earlswood with some major damage to the cab.
Bardic lamp sits on the cab step.
I was recently contacted by the driver of this loco who has kindly supplied the following information.
The picture was taken at the siding that used to be behind the signal box at Earlswood on the up side just under St Johns Road bridge. The collision was with a wagon loaded with loose sleepers and rails, two of which pierced the cab. Basically the wagon moved but the load piled up against the cab. We had picked our wheels up at around 20-25 mph after running round an engineers train in a posession the actual speed was of course a guess as the wheels weren't turning we skidded for a good half mile applying sand but the wheels would not start turning again. We knew something was wrong when the wheels started spinning light loco. The second man and the guard followed me in quick succession into the engine room, the only injury was was to the guard who broke an ankle because he tripped over the 27 way jumper. Apart from the obvious noise and damage my lasting memory was the light bulb in the route indicator box, still alight with the words "rough service" printed on them.
